DIAMOND RUSH : KIMBERLEY

From: POLLAPOLLO@aol.com [mailto:POLLAPOLLO@aol.com] Sent: 13 May 2009 12:38 PMTo: De Beer KallieSubject: RE:NEW RUSH DIAMOND MINE

Dear Kallie de Beer,
I discovered your very informative blog on "Google" with regard to the New Rush diamond fields and in particular the photographer "Gray".

I have in my possession three original albumen [photographs] of No 9 Road, No 8 Road and the sorting heaps of No 5 Road taken in 1872. Two annotated Gray, Market Square, New Rush.

Would you possibly have any further information to impart on this photographer or kindly point me in the right direction.

Apologies in advance for taking up your time.

Dear Chris Pollard

Thank you for the interesting e-mail, however, I don’t have any contact with the Kimberley Open Museum itself. I suggest that you go to their website www. thebighole.co.za and contact them for their possible exhibitions. They have a very big collection of old photographs etc. next to the big open diamond mine.

I will publish your letter on my Blog which is linked to Facebook as well. My friend, Nico, from Kimberley and I also will be interested to see your photo’s. If you could scan it for viewing, we will be grateful

As you will see, I have also forwarded your e-mail to Steve Lunderstedt, an historian in the Northern Cape who is very much up to date in this field. The other person Dr Jaco Mostert is an advisor to the Northern Cape Provincial Government and who may also know who to contact.

Best regards.

Kallie.
