From: De Beer Kallie Sent: 06 November 2008 09:06 AM To: Rampai Monica Cc: Kokoana China; Sebolai Kabelo; Van Der Merwe Ben Subject: Suggestions for 2009 HIV/AIDS PROJECTS Dear Ms Rampai My suggestion is that we must think holistically about the possibility to integrate the following services within one concept (or supplemental lectures) to our students: Academic Literacy ( ALP, English and indigenous languages); Mathematical literacy (including basic science and astronomy); Civil Education (read political literacy, not party politics, Judicial knowledge on Human Rights, Trade Unionism, Juridical procedures, Historical celebrations, Monuments and Election procedures); Health literacy (HIV and Aids, Tuberculoses, Cancer, Cardiovascular diseases, Blood donors, Physical fitness and wellbeing (like our Rector is working it out at the gym), Medical Schemes cycling ad walking for fun and relaxation; Environmental literacy (Clean water resources, Sanitation, Littering, Environmental preservation-Green Scorpions; Flower decorating, Tree planting); Economic Literacy (Banking, Tax, Savings, Interest rates, Investments, Insurance, Pension funds, International Currency rates, Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Safekeeping of cash); Road literacy ( Safe walking, cycling, motoring, flying, sailing, railways, taxi’s, public transport issues); and Logical literacy (Philosophy of life issues, Religions). Alternatively, it may also be integrated with the CUT curriculum as it is in the case of certain school curricula. Thank You. We are all affected or infected by this disease in one way or the other. I therefore make a plea to everyone to have an input into how this institution should deal with this problem. The program for 2009 is still in the planning stage and I therefore call for suggestions and comments on how to make the2009 HIV/AIDS programs more effective. Please remember, NO SUGGESTION is too stupid!
