POEM BY COLLEAGUE ON KALLIE DE BEER
Poem composed for Kallie by motswalle Shirley Malatji
The timeless mine is sworn by De Beer saying:
By my father Barend, by my grandfather Carel,
I will sparkle the educational diamonds.
Far away on the Swartberg mountain tops,
A bear gazes unprovoked beyond the CUT vision,
And a bearded bear of Barend De Beer brands tops,
Relentlessly running Open Distance Learning race,
Stretching arms over to Kimberly,
Turning towards Welkom and sowed a seed of welcome,
The Qwaqwa community will never flush your name down the drain,
And Kroonstad crowned De Beer with diamonds.
Right in the freezing months of winter,
The king of weather fears no winter,
There’s deep digging …
Hard pushing …
And there’s rubbing and peeling when the warmly clad Kallie commands ODL.
You have a name Ursaniles, Latin bear,
Nobody can bear taking De Beer for a beer,
Your name is Dr Kallie de Beer.
But whose diamond are you?
Who can touch your woolen suit?
Ask Christa a Christian wife,
For their marriage is crystal clear.
