GEORGE DE BEER IN THE UK

From: George de Beer [george@ukdebeer.fsnet.co.uk]Sent: 09 November 2008 08:50 PMTo: De Beer KallieSubject: Greetings from another de Beer
Hi Kallie,

I am reading a very interesting book on South Africa – Diamonds Gold And War by Martin Meredith and he intensively goes into the Johannes de Beer saga and how he sold his farm to the Port Elizabeth consortium.

Anyway enough of that – I came across you by googling Johannes de Beer and Kimberley. I live in the UK and am 55years of age. Believe it or not but I had a very English upbringing due to the fact that my father also George de Beer was raised in the Pietermaritzburg Railway Home and that’s where he became anglicised.

I am terribly interested in the de Beer family history and some years ago bought a Book "Die De Beer-familie Drie Eeue in Suid-Afrika" Divvie and Jaleen de Beer.

I have made some progress in tracing my family roots – My grandfather Daniel Petrus de Beer married his wife also de Beer in 1914 (Strange but they are from different de Beer’s) in Trompsburg Free State. They had a son in 15 Apr 1916 - Cornelius Johannes de Beer also in Trompsburg.
I have contacted the Ned Geref Kerk Free State and they say that all the Marriages and Baptismal Records were destroyed in a Church fire. Could you possibly provide any advice into me being able to find something about my grandfather who died a paupers death in Durban in 25/12/1929

Kind Regards
George de Beer

I read what you wrote and I am also looking for my family. My grandfather's name is Harold Matthew de Beer he is 73 years old and he married Martha Magdelena Thompson who is now late. now I do not know if it is from the same family but his father's name was Benjamin and I would like to find my family
