DE BEER'S FIRST CONGREGATION
It is speculated that the route that my De Beer ancestors more or less took (before, during and after the Great Trek of the Voortrekkers, circa 1838) from Kweekvallei (read Prince Albert next to the Swartberg Mountains)was first to Graaf Reinette in the (Great Karoo) and where they respectively split to Colesberg/Kimberley and Colesberg/Fauresmith. My specific family research shows that they fell under the Dutch Reformed church congregation of Fauresmith. Fauresmith was the nearest railway line from which they imported their goods from Cape Town. In those days they only attended the sacrament of the Holy Communion once a quarter when the new born babies were also baptized and registered on the church's register. The farm INHOEK, where my great-great grand father, Barent Petrus De Beer farmed, was situated next to Petrusburg -- that was founded some years later-- and where their offspring were baptized and raised. However, my own grand father. CAREL JOHANNES DE BEER was baptized in Kimberley (?). Most probably during a family visit to that part of the family tree.
1 Comments:
Karel Johannes de Beer was re baptized in the Seventhday Adventist church which was established by the Wessels and De Beers in Beaconsfield.
