EXECUTIVE BROCHURE FOR THE 25 YEARS OF EXISTENCE OF THE CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY: FREE STATE (READ TECHNIKON FREE STATE) Modus Operandi of empirical data collection Historical documentation; Official documents of the former TFS and the CUT; Interviews (Oral history); Publications; Compilation; and Editing. Historical documentation: The following sources of information are relevant: • Private Collection of Dr KJ De Beer (PV 755) Institute for Contemporary History, University of the Free State; • Private Collection of the Central University of Technology, Free State, Archive of the Library and Information Centre (cf. Interviews of Dr DJ Jacobs with the first secretary and president of the Technikon Board); • Photo collection of the CUT;and • TFS Board and CUT Council minutes. Interviews: The Assistant Director Media and Communications should be requested to interview the following persons for empirical oral information about the history of the former Technikon (read CUT): • Mrs Saartjie Potgieter, widdow of the founder of the College for Advanced Techical Education (read Technikon), Mr TD Potgieter; • Prof Kalie Strydom, member of the CUT council; • Mr Faan de Swardt, Senior Director Student Administration, first employer of the Technikon of the Orange Free State; • Prof CAJ Van Rensburg, Acting Vice Chancellor; • Prof JJ Van Lill, former principal of the TFS; • Mr Boet Troskie, former chairperson of the TFS Board; and • Mr Johan Fourie, Creater of Scientae Usus Gratia. Publications Relevant publications and media reports consists out of the following: Technikon Free State – A Historical Structural Analysis. A Case Study in Philosophical Ideas. Compilation The lithographic framework of the brochure must be determined in collaboration with the Assistant Director Media and Communications and the lithographer to create the text, graphical design, photo materials and format. The available space for contents and size of the brochure will determine the compilation of the factual information. Editing It is proposed that all the interviewees are allowed to proof read their oral contributions for factual correctness.
