Interresting reading, seeing your blog!! I am also very interested in the de Beer history. Maybe you can answer a few questios i might have. I always thought i was from the bloodline of de Beers from the Town of Bern Switzerland , but after reading your blogs i am now unsure. I was under the impression that there was originally two de Beer brothers that came from Bern to s.A. The one went mining and the other was a farmer. needles to say I am from the farmer side. Sorry I am Fennela Josepha de Beer. My late father was Joseph Johannes b.1941 d. 2008 so was my grand father and so was his father. and his father was Zacharias ,chrisined 24/12/1769.Hopefully my facts are all correct so far, but what puzzles me is who was his father and when did these de Beers come to S.A. ? Would you know what the attraction would have been to come here and i like to know the history about the whole great trek. Thanx for your blog. How interresting.
Best regards Fennela Josepha (nee de beer) Goldsmith
